Manchester United were put through then wringer by a gutsy Wolverhampton side: however, poor finishing by Gary O'Neil's men and an incredible leap from Raphael Varane saw the Red Devil's run away victors.
Erik ten Hag's side started their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford, hosting Wolves, who have a new manager in Gary O'Neil. Both teams struggled to find openings in the first-half, and despite a higher volume of attempts in the second 45' for the visitors, the hosts took maximum points.
How it happened
The hosts started the game controlling possession, but it was mostly sterile as they struggled to truly break down the Wolves' block.
The visitors showed teeth in transition instances; however, the first half was a show of inefficiency in both game plans. United struggled to break down a block, while Wolves' attempted counter-attacks were mostly snuffed out before turning into anything too dangerous.
The second-half was when the game truly came alive. Wolves stepped up the pitch, enabling the Red Devils to find more space behind.
Manchester United's pressure on the Wolves' backline paid off in the 76th minute when Raphael Varane rose highest to head in an Aaron Wan Bissaka delivery.
Tight, cagey but in the end Manchester United grab all three points at Old Trafford thanks to Varane ✅

What followed was a barrage of attacks from the visitors, with chance after chance. However, poor decision-making in the 18-yard area and impressive goalkeeping by the Manchester United shot-stopper spared the Red Devils, as they marched through to victory.
