Roma took an early 2-0 win through Matias Soule and Donyell Malen inside the first 20 minutes, but a second-half rally from Manchester United saw Bruno Fernandes score a penalty on the hour mark, and Cunha's three-minute brace in the last 10 minutes turned the tie on its head before the Brazilian forward received a red card in extra time.

Man United vs Roma: How it happened

Roma took the lead in the 13th minute when Rodrigo Mora split the United defence with a pass that allowed Matías Soulé to beat Senne Lammens one-on-one. The visitors doubled their advantage shortly afterwards when Ayden Heaven was penalised for handball inside the area, allowing Donyell Malen to convert from the penalty spot.

United struggled to respond before half-time, with Lammens making an important save to deny Malen before Soulé narrowly missed another opportunity.

Carrick’s side improved after the restart and reduced the deficit when Bruno Fernandes converted a retaken penalty. The initial attempt had been saved, but Roma were penalised for encroachment during the rebound. Bryan Mbeumo nearly equalised immediately afterwards, striking both posts with his effort.

United continued pushing and eventually drew level seven minutes from time when Matheus Cunha capitalised on Leonardo Balerdi’s mistake to convert Fernandes’ cross.

The Brazilian completed the turnaround moments later, collecting Shea Lacey’s pass before firing past the goalkeeper at the near post to give United a dramatic victory.

However, Cunha’s celebrations were cut short when he received a second yellow card for a late challenge in stoppage time.
