Mamelodi Sundowns have been backed to emerge from their turmoil and win the South African top flight, the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

‎Sundowns are not recording poor results but are experiencing fan unrest with supporters voicing their displeasure towards coach Miguel Cardoso and Sporting Director Flemming Berg.

‎The situation escalated last Friday when fans chanted the name of former coach Pitso Mosimane in the stands before attacking Berg as he left the stadium.

‎That was after Sundowns played out a 2-2 draw with Sudan’s Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League after letting their 64th minute lead slip.

‎In the PSL, the Brazilians are top of the table with 29 points from 25 games, same as Orlando Pirates, who have a game in hand and Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler does not think they are in any crisis.

‎'No Crisis' at Chloorkop

‎"Listen, I played them the other day with probably their third-choice team. And [they] still won,” said Tinkler as quoted by iDiski Times.

‎“I actually think there’s a lot of negativity that’s going around them. That is being created for wrong reasons.

‎“Because truth be told Sundowns won the league last year with 72 points. So that’s an average of 12 points every five games. Are they on track? Yes.

‎“They have exactly that amount. So have Sundowns got worse? I [would] understand if people say to me, ‘Sundowns are not achieving the 12 points per five games. They’re now eight’.

‎Tinkler Backs Sundowns

‎“Then I could sit here and say, yeah, there’s a problem at Sundowns. But the fact of the matter is they’ve got 12 from five."

‎Tinkler, whose team face Sundowns on Tuesday, feels Cardoso's team are well on course to win a ninth straight league title even with the threat of Pirates due to their quality and experience.

‎“So they’re still on target to 72 points come the end of the season, which no other team has even come close to," he added.

‎“The league used to be 60 points. Sundowns raised the bar to 72. We’re all trying to play catch up.

‎“We’re all trying to play catch up to that number. So I don’t read into that much. Because ultimately, I know the quality that they possess, they’re going to be difficult."
