Mamelodi Sundowns fans expressed their displeasure at coach Miguel Cardoso following their team’s 2-2 draw with Sudanese giants Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League on Friday.

Sundowns looked to be heading for a second group stage victory when Teboho Mokoena scored a stunning goal in the 64th minute but allowed the Sudanese club to equalise for a share of the spoils.

Al-Hilal had gone ahead after 15 minutes when Abdelrazig Omer took advantage of some poor defending to slot home but Brazilian Arthur Sales equalised in the 23rd minute.

Sundowns would miss a couple of chances before Mokoena fired home from range after a short corner but a defensive mistake from Grant Kekana allowed Omer to score his second of the game for 2-2 in the 71st minute.

Sundowns Fans Fume at Cardoso

That saw Sundowns miss an opportunity to take their tally to seven points from three games and although they still lead their group with five points, same as Al-Hilal, with MC Alger and St Eloi Lupopo, who face off on Sunday, on one point each, the supporters were not happy.

A section of the club’s fans remained behind and voiced their frustration towards Cardoso as the squad was saluting the supporters after the game.

Cardoso was not on the pitch at that moment but it did not stop the disappointed fans from calling him out and chanting "Pitso, Pitso" amid speculation linking former coach Pitso Mosimane to the job.

Mosimane has been reported this month to be in talks with Sundowns over replacing Cardoso but the Portuguese coach has dismissed it as rumours aimed at destabilising his team.

Cardoso will now have to ensure his team returns to winning ways when they play away to Al-Hilal next Friday to quieten the noise.
