The fan favorite — who was part of the Harambee Stars squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) — is set to undergo surgery for a groin injury sustained during the club’s 1–1 league draw against Tusker in October.

Speaking to SportPesa, Michira confirmed the unfortunate news and expressed his deep disappointment at the timing of the setback, which has interrupted what looked like a promising season.

“I am out for the rest of this year. It is heartbreaking, but such things happen in football,” the left winger stated.

He revealed that medical scans confirmed a significant groin tear, with doctors recommending surgery once the injury progresses to the required stage.

“I underwent scans, and it’s not something light. I have a tear on the groin, so I’ll have to undergo surgery,” Michira explained.

“The doctors said we have to wait until it gets to grade 3, then we can proceed with the operation.”

Michira’s Injury Negatively Impacted Shabana

The injury comes at a particularly frustrating time for Michira, who had been enjoying a strong start to the season as Shabana briefly climbed toward the top of the league standings. His impressive form in September had made him one of the club’s most consistent performers.

He admitted that the layoff has derailed his personal ambitions for the season.

“I started the season well and felt I could make great progress toward my targets, but as it stands, that will not be the case,” he said. “I’ll now focus fully on recovery.”

Despite the setback, Michira remains optimistic, vowing to use the downtime to fully recover and return stronger in the new year. He also expressed confidence that his teammates can step up in his absence.

“My focus is getting well and then coming back stronger,” he affirmed. “We are just going through a tough spell right now, but I’m sure whoever the coach trusts in the forward line will deliver. I believe in them.”

Shabana have struggled since Michira’s injury, going four games without a win — three losses and one draw — highlighting how crucial he has been to their attacking play. The forward’s energy, creativity, and pace on the left flank have been sorely missed.

The Kisii-based side now faces an uphill battle to reignite their campaign without their talisman, who remains hopeful of returning in top shape next season.

“I’ll take this time to recover properly and come back ready to help the team,” Michira added. “It’s tough, but that’s football.”

Shabana’s next fixtures will test their depth and resolve as they aim to climb out of their current slump — but Michira’s fighting spirit continues to reflect the belief and resilience that define the “Tore Bobe” faithful.
