Madrid controversy escalates: Refereeing body admit to Huijsen's red card error
Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory at Real Sociedad, but post-match attention shifted from the result to Huijsen's controversial sending off.
The young defender was dismissed by Jesús Gil Manzano for a last-man foul, though the Madrid club believes it warranted, at most, a yellow card.
Following the incident, Real Madrid revealed that they will lodge a complain to the football governing body FIFA over the officiating in La Liga.
CTA admit to referee error
The Spanish Referees Committee (CTA) has now sided with Real Madrid's stance: their internal assessment confirms that a mistaken decision was indeed made, as reporetd by Sportal.
However, the body added that the incident was "complex, with multiple interpretations", thus requiring a detailed analysis.
Interestingly, the CTA deemed the VAR's decision correct. Jorge Figueroa Vázquez did not intervene because he did not consider the on-field decision to be a "clear and obvious error."
Real Madrid is expected to appeal Huijsen's suspension, as the young defender is currently unavailable for this weekend's league match against Espanyol.
However, if the disciplinary committee accepts their arguments, Xabi Alonso could once again count on him at the Santiago Bernabéu.
