Lorelay Holzendorff: Meet Nigerian teenage who idolises Serena Williams

Nigeria's teenager, Lorelay Holzendorff has revealed that she idolizes Serena Williams as her Tennis idol.

The Nigerian Tennis U-14 champion defeated U-16 champions Bright Emmanuel to book a place in the girls' singles final at the ongoing National Youth Games.

Serena Williams is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time as she won 23 Grand Slam women's singles titles, the most in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time.

In 2016, Williams was the highest-paid female athlete in the world, earning about $29 million. In 2017, she was the only woman on Forbes' list of the 100 highest-paid athletes, earning $27 million in prize money and endorsements.

She earned the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award four times (in 2003, 2010, 2016, and 2018) and was awarded Sportsperson of the Year by Sports Illustrated magazine in December 2015. She is the highest-paid female athlete in history.

The U-14 champion told Pulse Sports that she decided to choose Serena Williams as her mentor because of the tennis legend's achievements in the game.
