The match began with a script Anfield fans have seen too often lately; former Everton star Anthony Gordon exploited a defensive gap in the 36th minute to fire the Magpies ahead.

However, the lead was short-lived as Hugo Ekitike produced a stunning "blitz," scoring twice in just 138 seconds. His first, a tap-in from a mesmerizing Florian Wirtz run, was followed immediately by a clinical finish off a Milos Kerkez through-ball to flip the game before half-time.

The momentum stayed with the hosts after the break. Florian Wirtz capped a majestic individual display in the 67th minute, curling a low effort past Nick Pope to make it 3–1.

With Newcastle's spirit broken, Ibrahima Konate added gloss to the scoreline, capping a dominant display for the hosts.
