Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez match David Beckham's 16-year MLS record

Inter Miami's star duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have achieved a remarkable feat in Major League Soccer (MLS), matching a long-standing record held by former LA Galaxy stars Landon Donovan and David Beckham.

After delivering impressive performances with two goals and an assist each in consecutive games, Messi earned the title of MLS Player of the Matchday for his standout displays over the weekend. 

This marks Messi's second time winning the award this season, with him and Suarez combining for four of these accolades in 11 matches, equaling the total achieved by Donovan and Beckham in 2008, according to Goal.

Messi and Suarez, both former Barcelona stars, have been wreaking havoc on the Eastern Conference teams this season. Messi has showcased his prowess with nine goals and four assists, while Suarez has contributed seven goals and four assists in MLS action. 

Their dominant start to the campaign suggests they will continue to be a force to be reckoned with as the season progresses.

Beckham, now a co-owner of Inter Miami, must be proud to see his team's star players matching a record that he set during his own illustrious playing career in MLS, 16 years ago. 

As Inter Miami prepares to face the New York Red Bulls this weekend, the Herons aim to extend their winning streak in MLS action to four games. On the other hand, the Red Bulls will seek to secure an early-season double over their Eastern Conference rivals.
