Chelsea failed to build on the momentum from their recent positive high-profile results as they were beaten 3–1 by a Leeds United side primed to exploit their defensive frailties.

Leeds took a 2-0 lead into halftime with goals from Jaka Bijol (6') and Ao Tanaka (43'). However, Chelsea threatened a comeback when Pedro Neto found the back of the net in the 50th minute, before a Tosin Adarabioyo blunder gifted Dominic Calvert-Lewin his first goal at Elland Road to seal a famous victory.

Maresca named a rotated side after losing Caicedo to suspension and giving rest to Pedro Neto, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Garnacho, and the recovering Cole Palmer. The large-scale changes proved costly, as they are now down to 4th, nine points behind leaders Arsenal on the log.

Leeds flew out of the blocks and were rewarded almost immediately. In the 6th minute, a deep corner was met by Bijol at the near post and his header flashed in.

Enzo Maresca's side rarely recovered their composure in the first half. As the interval approached, Leeds struck again in the 44th minute when Ao Tanaka collected space on the edge of the area and arrowed a high-quality strike into the net.

Chelsea showed urgency after the restart and halved the deficit five minutes in. In the 50th minute Pedro Neto, who was substituted in, converted after a period of sustained pressure and movement from the Blues.

However, Leeds regained their two-goal cushion through a defensive error from the Chelsea backline in the 72nd minute. Under pressure from Leeds, Adarabioyo’s attempted back pass was pounced on by Noah Okafor, and the resulting ricochet from Robert Sanchez’s save fell to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who tapped in to make it 3–1.

That strike ended Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback, as despite Maresca throwing the kitchen sink by bringing on multiple attackers, Daniel Farke's side held on to maximum points.
