Both English and Spanish sources report, via Sportal, that Chelsea has already submitted an initial offer of €50 million.

Should López move to the English club, his annual salary could rise to €9 million—a 150% increase on his current wages. For context, such a salary would make him the third-highest-paid player at Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are demanding at least €70 million for the midfielder, whose contract runs until 2029. Chelsea has reportedly given López 48 hours to decide if he is open to the move. The player is currently on a two-day break in the Balearic Islands, contemplating his future.

Barcelona continues to struggle with significant salary cap problems, preventing them from registering players such as Gerard Martin, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Roony Bardghji.

This has been a recurring obstacle in their transfer activities in recent years. Similar situations previously arose with Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araújo and Marc Casadó, whom the club also attempted to sell.

Barcelona's last significant income came in the summer of 2023 when they sold Ousmane Dembélé to PSG for €50 million, a similar financial pressure that also contributed to Lionel Messi's move to Paris.

Although head coach Hansi Flick has made it clear he wants to keep López, Barcelona's financial situation makes rejecting such a substantial offer a significant risk. The ball is now in the player's court: stay at Camp Nou where his playing time is uncertain, or accept Chelsea's offer, which promises not only a massive pay rise but also the spotlight of the Premier League.
