The Red Devils were defeated 1-0 by the 2016 runners-up, all but ending any hope of the remnants of the so-called Golden Generation claiming an international title.

De Bruyne started deeper against Les Blues, but Domenico Tedesco altered the Manchester City playmaker’s role and position in the game’s second half as they chased the game.

However, the 33-year-old could not inspire a turnaround and Belgium suffered last-16 elimination.

Speaking after Belgium’s early exit, De Bruyne revealed it would be too soon to announce while reeling from the disappointment of losing to France.

"It's too early to answer," De Bruyne told reporters after Belgium’s Euro 2024 exit. "Let me process this loss. It's a been a very long season, I need to rest my body. I will make my decision after the summer."

What comes next?

De Bruyne’s club future is also uncertain, with reports linking the playmaker with a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian has one year left on his current contract and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
