Ex-Super Eagles forward Kalu Uche has seen his 13-year record in LALIGA with Almeria fall after Spanish forward Adrian Embarba’s goals on the last day of the season for the Andalusian side.
Embarba breaks Kalu Uche’s record
Embarba scored twice against Espanyol, including a late penalty on the final day of the 2022/23 LALIGA season, to rescue Almeria from the brink of relegation and, in the process, set a new record at the club.
Aged 31 years and 28 days, Embarba’s goals against Espanyol made him the oldest goalscorer in Almeria’s LALIGA history, beating the record set by Kalu Uche in the 2010/11 season.
Kalu Uche was 27 years and 315 days old when he scored his final goal for Almeria in September 2010, the oldest at the time, but his milestone has now been shattered by more than four years.
Embarba saves Almeria from relegation
Embarba’s goal in the 87th minute for Almeria against Espanyol ensured that the Spanish forward will get the chance to set a new record in the 2023/24 season as it ensured that the Almeriensistas will be in next season’s LALIGA at the expense of Real Valladolid who finished with a point less.
In a tight relegation race, Real Valladolid had the misfortune of being the one out of six possible teams to drop into the relegation zone in LALIGA on the final day, despite finishing with 40 points.
They joined Espanyol and Elche in the bottom three and will be playing football in LALIGA 2 next season.
