‘I’ve not been able to find form yet’ - Lookman explains reason for muted celebration

The Nigerian international had not found the back of the net since May, a dry spell that coincided with fitness struggles and a failed summer transfer to Inter Milan. 

However, he ended the drought with a powerful left-footed strike that cancelled out Samuele Ricci's opener for the visitors.

The forward helped his team earn a 1-1 draw against AC Milan last weekend, extending their unbeaten run in the league.

Despite the significance of the goal, Lookman's reaction was notably restrained. He showed little emotion and maintained a stoic expression, even when later presented with the man of the match award. 

When asked by DAZN Italia if he was happy in Bergamo, the forward deflected, focusing instead on his team duties.

"It’s important to be available for the team, to help the team," Lookman stated. "I’ve not been able to find form yet, physically or in front of goal. 

“But I’ll get there eventually, and this was a step forward in the right direction. Hopefully, in the coming games, we’ll be able to get some wins."

"I think that when I’m on the pitch, the most important thing is to try to help the team win," he added. "We want to keep climbing up the table, and that’s the most important thing, to win football games."

The draw was Atalanta's fifth in a row, a frustrating run for coach Ivan Juric, whose side managed only one goal from 17 shots against Milan.

Atalanta will look to convert their performances into a victory when they travel to face Udinese next.
