'It's long overdue' - Joseph Yobo tells Super Eagles star Moses Simon to join Iwobi, Ndidi, others in the English Premier League
Legendary former Everton and Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo has advised his fellow countryman Moses Simon to seek a move to the Premier League if he decides to leave FC Nantes in the upcoming transfer window.
While Simon's contract with the French club runs until June 2026, rumours have surfaced about a potential departure this summer, particularly if Nantes face relegation from Ligue 1.
Several clubs, including Olympique de Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais, Stade Rennais, and Everton, have reportedly shown interest in the 29-year-old winger.
In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Yobo, who himself spent nearly a decade playing in the Premier League for Everton, strongly encouraged Simon to make his debut in the English top flight.
He said, "I don't know the truth about the reports that he wants to leave Nantes, but if he were to leave, it would have to be for the Premier League, which is where he plays next. It's long overdue given his ability, versatility, and experience.
"I mean, why not? He is, and has always been, good enough for English football; it's long overdue. And, for me, if he were to go, it would be the highlight of his career, because it's the best and most competitive league in the world," Yobo stated.
Yobo specifically highlighted the rumoured interest from his former club, Everton, as a potentially ideal move for Simon.
"If the reports of Everton's interest are true, and above all, serious, then it would be even better. I played on Merseyside for almost a decade, and I know the football culture there; it's enormous. This would be an ideal transfer for him, as his impact and speed are well-suited to Everton," Yobo added.
Moses Simon has been a consistent performer for Nantes since joining in 2020, making 199 appearances, scoring 36 goals, and providing 39 assists.
This season, he has registered seven goals and nine assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. He is also a key player for the Nigerian national team, with 77 caps, nine goals, and 13 assists to his name.
As Nantes prepare for their upcoming Ligue 1 match against AJ Auxerre, the future of Moses Simon remains a topic of speculation, with Yobo's strong endorsement adding weight to a potential move to the Premier League.
