‘It’s a lack of respect’ – Maresca explains why he won’t discuss Enzo Fernandez
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has refused to discuss reports linking Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez with a move to the Etihad, insisting his focus is firmly on the players currently at his disposal ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
With City preparing to face Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Maresca was questioned about reports suggesting the club could make a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández.
The Argentina international has reportedly emerged as a potential target as City look to reshape their midfield following Rodri's departure.
However, Maresca refused to fuel the speculation and instead stressed the importance of respecting players contracted to other clubs.
Maresca shuts down Enzo Fernandez talk
Asked about the possibility of City pursuing Fernandez, Maresca was quick to distance himself from the rumours.
He said, “Enzo (Fernandez) is a Chelsea player, and I'm not going to talk about players that are not with us.”
The City manager explained that discussing another club's player would not be appropriate, particularly given his own expectations of how rival managers should conduct themselves.
He added, “First of all, because I think it's a lack of respect, and second because I don't like when different managers talk about our players.”

Bournemouth provide immediate test
Attention will now turn to Bournemouth, who represent City's first Premier League opponents of the new season.
Maresca expects the visitors to provide a difficult challenge, particularly because of their aggressive style of play.
Having analysed Bournemouth's pre-season matches as well as their performances from last season, the City boss believes there is a clear identity within the team.
He said, “You can see clearly the identity. A very aggressive team. They already were aggressive with Andoni (Iraola), and they still are. It's quite clear what they do on the ball and off the ball.”
The Bournemouth clash will mark an important moment for City as Maresca begins his competitive reign following Pep Guardiola's departure.
City also suffered defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, adding further pressure on Maresca to deliver a strong opening performance.
