Benfica’s only goal came from Kerem Akturkoglu’s expertly curled finish in the 35th minute, cementing their place in Europe’s elite competition and sending Fenerbahce into UEFA’s second-tier Europa League instead.

Despite the bad results and disappointing Champions League exit, Ogunwale claims the catalyst for Mourinho’s departure was related to the club’s inactivity in the transfer market.

Speaking on his official social media, the Nigerian journalist said: “Mourinho left because Fenerbahce were passive in the transfer market. I’m actually surprised it took this long.”

According to Ogunwale, Mourinho grew frustrated with Fenerbahce’s lack of ambition and reinforcements despite his clear demands for strengthening the squad.

The coach reportedly felt unsupported in his plans to build a competitive team capable of meeting the club’s high expectations both domestically and in Europe, with bitter rivals Galatasaray strengthening an already solid team.
