I'm still the same — Barcelona Ballon d'Or winner reacts to Messi comparisons
Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati recently responded to comparisons with Lionel Messi, acknowledging that the Argentina international has superior achievements.
The 26-year-old Spain international became the first footballer since Messi to win three consecutive Golden Ball titles and stands a legitimate chance of matching his record tally of eight.
What Aitana said
Achieving a similar feat as Messi has unavoidably seen her mentioned alongside the diminutive Argentine. Ahead of Spain's Nations League final clash against Germany, she was asked about the comparisons with Messi with regard to the Ballon d'Or, and she had the following to say:
“No, no. I don't compare myself to Messi; he's on another planet. I'm following my own path. The Ballon d'Or awards don't change me," she told AS.
“I'm still the same, with the same personality. With the same things that make me happy and with the people who make me feel like myself. Nothing changes me, and I think that's very positive.”
Meanwhile, Aitana will hope to add to her trophy cabinet in the two-legged Nations League final against Germany. Germany host the first leg today
