In 2023, the defender transferred from RB Leipzig to Manchester City for £77 million, becoming the world's second-most expensive defender.

He signed a five-year deal, with his transfer fee only exceeded by Harry Maguire's £80 million move to Manchester United in 2019.

Since joining, he has established himself as a key player and is now considered one of the best defenders in football.

The defender expressed his satisfaction at being reinstated to his preferred centre-back position within the club.

Last season, Guardiola frequently deployed Gvardiol at left-back, a period that coincided with a difficult run of form for the team.

"Once it started, it was quite difficult to get out of," Gvardiol admitted. "We spoke about it a lot of times... At the end we managed to be in the Champions League again and be in the FA Cup final."

This season, however, has seen a return to form for both City and Gvardiol, who has shifted back to his preferred position at left-sided centre-back.

"I'm happy to be back to my position," he said. "Just play simple, protect the goal, defend the goal."

Gvardiol will be hoping to help Manchester City get back to their best this season as they chase the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
