Iheanacho sparks relegated Leicester City to win against Coventry
Leicester City relegated from the Premier League last season played their first Championship fixture against Coventry City on Sunday, August 6, 2023.
At the King Power Stadium, Leicester City defeated Coventry City 2-1 in their Championship season opener.
After the first half ended scoreless, Kyle McFadzean's near-post corner goal in the 47th minute gave last season's defeated Championship play-off finalists the lead and seemed to be on their way to a well-earned three points.
But after 77 minutes, Dewsbury-Hall of Leicester City made equalized for their first goal of the season.
Dewsbury-Hall's superb right-foot curler from 15 yards gave Leicester the victory in the 87th minute.
Iheanacho and Ndidi play in the Championship
Super Eagles of Nigeria duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi featured for Leicester City in the win against Coventry City.
Ndidi started the game in midfield for Leicester City with Harry Winks and Hall.
With Leicester City down a goal, Ndidi was substituted for Dennis Praet in the 62nd minute.
Iheanacho was introduced in the 75th minute for club legend Jamie Vardy.
He would go on to play a key role as Leicester City came back to win the game.
Now, Leicester must travel to Burton Albion for an EFL Cup game on Tuesday before traveling to Huddersfield the following Saturday.
On Wednesday night, Coventry plays Wimbledon in the EFL Cup before hosting Middlesbrough at the CBS Arena.
