Chelsea’s hopes of conquering the FIFA Club World Cup took a nasty hit after a humbling 3-1 defeat to Brazilian side Flamengo, and one former Blues star has had enough.

Frank Leboeuf, who won the World Cup with France and played over 200 games for Chelsea, launched a scathing assessment of the club’s performance and long-term direction, warning fans to stop living in delusion.

Leboeuf blasts Chelsea’s fragile foundation

Speaking on ESPN FC, Leboeuf held nothing back as he slammed the Blues’ display and their current identity crisis.

“They finished fourth because the league wasn’t good last season,” he said, adding, “If you want too much and you expect too much from Chelsea, you’re a fool. You really are a fool because this thing is settled on something very fragile.”

Leboeuf highlighted the lack of seasoned leaders in the squad, claiming the absence of “one or two experienced players” has left the team rudderless and easy to break down.

Flamengo expose Chelsea’s weak core

Chelsea had taken the lead through Pedro Neto, who capitalised on a lucky break to race through and score early. But it all unravelled after halftime.

Flamengo roared back with goals from Bruno Henrique, Danilo, and a late clincher from Wallace Yan. Nicolas Jackson’s reckless red card added insult to injury, summing up the Blues’ implosion.

While Chelsea can still mathematically progress to the Round of 16, Leboeuf’s words ring loud, as the Blues now face the prospect of playing German giants Bayern Munich if they manage to qualify from their Club World Cup group.
