Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has admitted he would welcome the chance to play for a Nigerian club if the opportunity ever arose, saying life in Europe can be “boring” compared to home.
The 24-year-old made the candid revelation on The Culture League Podcast, which he co-hosts alongside Super Eagles teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika.
The show, anchored by popular TV personality Adams Adebola, widely known as VJ Adams, often explores the personal lives and cultural perspectives of Nigerian football stars.
What Boniface said
When asked where he would go if given a blank cheque to join any team, Boniface didn’t hesitate to pick Lagos as his destination, even mentioning the now-defunct MFM FC as his preferred side.
“I will play for MFM in Lagos,” he said with a smile.
Explaining his choice, the former Bundesliga champion noted it would allow him to stay closer to home.
“If Nigeria is like a six-hour drive to Germany, I would stay here and drive every morning to train and play in Germany. Europe is boring,” he added.
Boniface also spoke fondly about the things he misses most while abroad, “The food. Not just the food, life close to family, friends, you understand."
Boniface enjoyed a stellar debut season in Germany, playing a key role as Xabi Alonso’s side claimed their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023.
