What Iwobi said

Speaking ahead of the match, the Arsenal Academy graduate reminisced on his time in Goodison Park, Everton’s former stadium. The Toffees moved to a new ground this season, which Iwobi has never played in, and he looks forward to picking up a win.

“In life, sometimes you have to move on,” Iwobi said, per Everton News. “I have some good memories of Goodison Park, but now I am looking to create new memories playing against them, and hopefully we can get a win.

“It always feels special to face a former team, but I will look to treat it like any other team. I try to treat all opponents the same way.”

Iwobi and Everton

Iwobi joined Everton on 8 August 2019 from Arsenal in a deal worth £28 million, signing a five-year contract. He spent four full seasons at Goodison Park, making 140 appearances in all competitions.

He left for Fulham in September 2023 in a deal worth up to £22 million. Still, Iwobi retains a respectful relationship with Everton supporters. Since his move, he has faced his former club twice, a goalless draw at Craven Cottage in January 2024, and a 1–1 draw at Goodison Park in October 2024, where he scored against Everton but chose not to celebrate out of respect.
