The bankers had an inspired game on Tuesday as they responded twice to beat APs Bomet 4-2 in an FKF Premier League contest and the win was inspired by a Kelvin Etemesi hat-trick.

Philip Wasai netted for the Bomet-based side after 21 minutes but Etemesi equalised eight minutes later only for Philip Wasai to make it 2-1 in the 33rd minute.

Etemesi would equalise again in the 51st minute before Richard Omondi made it 3-2 two minutes later and the former Nairobi City Stars striker made the points safe with a fourth one to complete his hat-trick just past the hour mark.

Victory sent KCB to the top of the table with 21 points, taking their unbeaten run to seven games, and Matano revealed how he had been disappointed with Etemesi’s performances prior to the game to the point that he issued him with an ultimatum.

What Did Matano Tell Etemesi?

“He has been below-par all these days but I told him this is the last game I am giving him. If he cannot wake up, then he has no chance at KCB because I only want players who perform,” Matano said after the match.

“But he has redeemed himself. In football, it is all about you the player, we will help you to get in the team and play but when it comes to performance, it is on you,” he added over the forward, who joined KCB from City Stars before the start of this season.

Matano is, however, delighted with Omondi’s output, saying the player has grown into his role exponentially having been signed from a lower league side.

“Richard Omondi is a player who came from Division Two, he has not played in the NLS or Premier League but he scores in every game so he is a good player and I think he will be of great help to us and we will continue well,” added the former Tusker FC, AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars coach.
