What began as a dispute over paternity and child support has escalated to a stalemate over a custody agreement, with Edwards' legal team accusing Howard of making new, "exorbitant" demands that are holding up the finalization of their deal.

This latest development is the newest chapter in a legal saga that has been playing out for nearly a year.

The dispute began shortly after their daughter's birth, when Edwards filed a paternity suit in Georgia to confirm fatherhood and establish child support obligations.

This was met by a competing case filed by Howard in California.

Edwards' legal team argued that Howard, who has an older son with rapper Lil Baby, was filing in California in hopes of securing a higher child support award due to the state's more favorable guidelines.

A California judge ultimately sided with Edwards in March 2025, ruling that child support would not be set in California, a decision that Howard has since appealed.

The court has granted Howard sole legal and physical custody, a point Edwards has not contested, as he has stated he is "not seeking custody or visitation rights."

During a hearing in May, Howard further fanned the flames by claiming that Edwards "does not want anything to do with" their daughter and has "never" met her.

The legal battle has also included a prior point of contention over a non-disparagement clause and restrictions on posting photos of their child, which Howard opposed and which Edwards' team reportedly removed.

However, the removal of those clauses appears to have paved the way for the current, even more significant demands.

The situation remains delicate, with Edwards' legal team now asking the court to intervene to force Howard's signature on the custody agreement, without the new stipulations, to finally bring the legal process to a close.
