‘I love you, but behave yourself off the pitch’ - Carragher offers playful apology to Salah
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has addressed Mohamed Salah with a light-hearted but pointed “apology” following ongoing debates regarding the Egyptian’s behaviour and interactions off the field.
The former defender had previously described Salah's remarks after Liverpool's draw with Leeds United as a "disgrace" during his analysis on Monday Night Football.
Carragher suggested the timing of Salah's comments was a calculated move to create leverage and cause disruption.
"I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he's done four times in eight years, it's choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position," Carragher had stated.
He added, "He did that 12 months ago and I called him out on this show about it and he played on the heartstrings of Liverpool supporters."
Carragher accused the Egyptian star of strategically waiting for a poor result to voice his frustrations.
"He's waited, I think, for a bad result for Liverpool," he added. "Concede a last-minute goal, supporters, the manager, everyone at the club feels like they are in the gutter and he's chosen that time to go for the manager and to maybe try and get him sacked."
However, during his regular appearance on CBS Sports' Champions League coverage, Carragher delivered a message that blended humour with criticism, saying, “Mo, I apologise if I have upset you. I love you as the Liverpool player, but you need to behave yourself off the pitch.”
