‘I hope he can recover from that’ - Super Eagles captain extends condolences to Anthony Joshua
Reports emerged on Monday that the two-time unified heavyweight world champion was in a severe accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua was reportedly en route to Sagamu to visit family when his vehicle collided with a parked trailer by the roadside.
While Joshua survived the collision and was conscious when responders arrived, his two companions, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Ndidi’s message to Joshua
Speaking after Nigeria's 3-1 victory over Uganda in the AFCON 2025, team captain Wilfred Ndidi shared his reaction to the devastating news.
"Ah man, it was a difficult one when we heard that," Ndidi stated. "He lost his friends. It’s really, really a sad one, you know.
“I hope he can recover from that. I wish him strength, and his family, and the family of the guys who died also all the strength."
The right-hand drive vehicle was severely damaged, and reports suggest Joshua's survival may have been due to his seating position away from the primary point of impact.
Following the news, an outpouring of support has come from figures worldwide, including Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, fellow boxer Chris Eubank Jr., and promoter Eddie Hearn.
Joshua is currently receiving medical care in Lagos and has not yet released a public statement regarding the incident. The boxing community and his supporters hope for his swift recovery from this tragedy.
