I don’t make a big deal of it - Alonso insists there is no issue between him and Vinicius
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has dismissed growing speculation around Vinicius Junior’s frequent substitutions this season, insisting there is no issue between him and the Brazilian forward.
Despite being one of Madrid’s most effective attackers so far, Vinicius has not played a full 90 minutes in any of the club’s 12 competitive games this season.
The 23-year-old has contributed two goals and two assists in five La Liga appearances but has consistently been rotated.
This pattern, coupled with reports that Vinicius recently turned down Madrid’s latest contract renewal offer, has fuelled speculation about his long-term future at the Bernabéu.
What Alonso said
Speaking at a press conference, Alonso downplayed the concerns, stressing that his focus remains on the team’s overall success rather than individual minutes.
"I've been a player. Me too, when I was substituted, it wasn't the best time. I take it naturally and we talk about things. I like being close to the players. I don't make a big deal out of it," Alonso explained.
"After the match I spoke to the players and they were all happy: for the victory and eager to continue improving. That's what we need, to be a team player and have a collective spirit.
“All the players understand the role we want for the team and they are contributing. I'm happy with Vinicius, we're just starting the season. He has to continue feeling comfortable. There's still a lot left,” he added.
Real Madrid will travel to face Levante on September 23 before heading to Kazakhstan for their Champions League clash with Kairat Almaty on September 30.
