Ruben Amorim has remained defiant in the face of growing scrutiny over his future as Manchester United manager, insisting he is unfazed by mounting pressure following yet another damaging Premier League defeat.

The Portuguese coach cut a calm figure despite his team’s 3-1 loss at Brentford, which further deepened the club’s ongoing crisis.

Amorim brushes off job speculation after Brentford defeat

Manchester United’s miserable run of form shows no sign of easing, and the numbers are stark. Since Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford last autumn, United have picked up just 34 points from 33 Premier League games, losing 17 matches in the process.

Last season ended with the club languishing in 15th place, and six games into the new campaign, they remain stuck in the bottom half of the table.

Despite the grim statistics, Amorim remains composed and publicly unconcerned about his position. Speaking after the defeat at the GTech Community Stadium, he told BBC Match of the Day: “I am never concerned about my job, I am not that kind of guy. It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here.”

His comments come amid growing speculation over his future, with United fans and pundits expressing frustration at the lack of progress since his arrival. However, Amorim insists his focus is on the work, not the noise around him.

United’s defensive frailties exposed again

The defeat to Brentford was a familiar story for Manchester United with a slow start, shaky defending, and wasted chances. Keith Andrews’ Brentford side struck early, breaking the deadlock inside eight minutes. Jordan Henderson’s long ball released Thiago, who finished clinically beyond Altay Bayındır.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 20th minute through Thiago again, punishing United’s disorganised backline. Benjamin Šeško gave Amorim’s men brief hope with a well-taken goal, but Bruno Fernandes squandered a golden opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot in the second half.

As United chased the game late on, Brentford delivered the final blow in stoppage time when Mathias Jensen curled a superb strike past Bayındır to make it 3-1.

The result piles more pressure on Amorim, who has yet to find consistency in performances or results. With the club languishing in the lower half of the table and criticism mounting, the coming weeks could prove decisive for his Old Trafford future — even if the man himself remains publicly serene.
