FIFA punished South Africa three points for fielding Teboho Mokoena, who should have been serving a one-game suspension for accruing yellow cards, in their March 2-0 victory over Lesotho, which was transformed into a 3-0 loss.

Bafana Bafana now sits in second place in group C, one goal behind Benin on goal differential but tied with them on 14 points.

Hugo Broos laments a terrible trip, saying they arrived 2am as the Bafana Bafana of South Africa gets a point against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier.

With two group stage qualifiers remaining, South Africa must either win both of their games and pass Benin on goal differential or hope the Cheetahs make a mistake and lose points to guarantee automatic participation.
