How Chukwueze became the face of Amorim’s player improvement at AC Milan

Samuel Chukwueze is beginning to look like one of the biggest beneficiaries of Ruben Amorim’s arrival at AC Milan after another impressive performance highlighted the Portuguese coach’s ability to unlock players’ potential.

The Super Eagles winger played a key role as Milan secured a 2-1 Serie A victory over Torino, providing the assist for Adrien Rabiot's winning goal and continuing his impressive turnaround under the new manager.

Milan endured a difficult pre-season period, with several underwhelming results raising questions ahead of their league opener.

Those concerns appeared justified as the Rossoneri struggled to find their rhythm during their visit to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. However, the introduction of Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modric transformed the contest.

Rabiot created the opening goal for Cisse before scoring Milan’s second moments later after receiving a perfectly timed pass from Chukwueze.

Although Torino pulled one back in stoppage time through Che Adams’ spectacular acrobatic volley, Milan held on to begin the Serie A campaign with a valuable victory.

For Chukwueze, the match represented another step forward after a difficult period at the club. The Nigerian had struggled to consistently impress under previous Milan managers but has found a new lease of life under Amorim, who has quickly identified ways to maximise his qualities.

Amorim has repeatedly spoken about his desire to improve players within the squad, and Chukwueze has become the clearest example of that philosophy.

“We are improving some players, we have a lot of players who are doing pre-season now, but we will do more work during the week,” Amorim said after the Torino victory.

Chukwueze’s recent performances suggest that work is already producing results. After starring in Milan’s 4-2 pre-season victory over Manchester United with a goal and an assist, the Nigerian carried that confidence into competitive action with a man-of-the-match display against Torino.

Operating in a new wing-back role, Chukwueze looked more involved and dangerous throughout the match. He created four chances and delivered the decisive assist, showing a different side to his game beyond his traditional attacking output.

The 26-year-old will now hope his strong start can become the foundation for a consistent season at San Siro. With Amorim trusting him in a new role and helping him rediscover his confidence, Chukwueze could become one of Milan’s most important players in the new campaign.
