‘His idea does not fit Real Madrid’ - Bayern Munich legend explains reason for Xabi Alonso’s struggle

Pressure is intensifying on Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid struggles to find the dominant form of past seasons. 

The Spanish giants were defeated at the Bernabeu 2-1 by Manchester City on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League, adding more pressure to Alonso.

Reports from Spain suggest a growing disconnect in the dressing room over Alonso's methods, with players reportedly complaining about "excessive" video analysis and a lack of creative freedom.

Kahn believes the Spanish coach's tactical rigidity is at odds with the club's identity, while Hamann argues the squad has become "unmanageable" after Vinicius Jr. was allowed to challenge the manager's authority.

Speaking on Sky Sport Germany, former Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn claimed these issues were predictable, arguing that Alonso's philosophy is fundamentally incompatible with the club's "Galactico" culture.

"It is no surprise because his idea does not fit Real Madrid," Kahn stated. "The approach Xabi pursues with this system football and positional play requires very specific players. At Real Madrid, however, completely different football is played."
