Liverpool’s new attacking star, Florian Wirtz, has named Mohamed Salah as the Premier League’s top performer last season, expressing his eagerness to team up with the Egyptian forward.
Wirtz, who scored 57 goals and provided 65 assists in nearly 200 games for the Bundesliga club, is thrilled about his move to Anfield and looking forward to the new Premier League season under manager Arne Slot.
Wirtz excited to link up with Mohamed Salah at Liverpool
In an interview quoted by TBR, he was asked which teammate he’s most excited to play with.
“Of course, the whole team, but maybe Mo Salah. He was the best player last season, so yeah, I’m really looking forward to playing with him,” Wirtz said.
Salah’s stellar form last term, netting 34 goals and adding 23 assists in 52 matches across all competitions, was key to Liverpool securing their first Premier League title in five years.
The Egyptian will be relied upon to once again provide the goals and assists as Liverpool look to retain the Premier League title for the first time in more than 35 years.
The Reds face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield this weekend before kicking off their Premier League season against Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, and Wirtz is expected to start behind fellow new arrival Hugo Ekitike.
