Heartbroken footballer attempts to jump off a bridge and kill himself after alleged 'breakup'

Reports have it that a top-flight footballer was on the verge of taking his own life after his girlfriend allegedly dumped him.

Rumours in France have it that the player became suicidal after allegedly suffering a ‘breakup,’ but a representative from the player's camp have denied such claims.

According to the DailyStar, the unnamed player who plies his trade with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice threatened to throw himself off the Magnan Bridge in France.

OGC Nice have taken proactive steps to help the player. They sent professionals such as police officers, firefighters, and a psychologist to intervene and aid the player’s recovery.

As of press time, French outlet BFMTV reported that the player currently stood on the 100-metre-high Magnan viaduct northwest of Nice.

It was reported that the player pulled up by the side of the road and threatened to jump off the bridge.

A 5km traffic congestion has also been reported in the area because of the incident, as traffic along the route through the city of Nice has been restricted.

As a result of the new development, OGC Nice have called off its press conference that was to hold today, Friday (September 29).
