‘He would’ve ended up on the bench’ - Italian legend insists Lookman is not good enough to start at Inter Milan
The Super Eagles star was close to leaving Atalanta this summer after an impressive season with the Italian side.
Inter were heavily linked with Lookman during the summer transfer window and made a move to sign the winger.
However, the move ultimately fell through after the Nerazzurri were unwilling to meet Atalanta's €50 million valuation.
Ferrara speaks on Lookman
Speaking to DAZN, as reported by FCInter1908, the former defender suggested that the Atalanta forward would not have been a good fit for Cristian Chivu's tactical system.
"Lookman might have had the chance to go to Inter," Ferrara stated. "But he would’ve ended up on the bench.
"To fit him in, you’d have to change too much: the formation, the structure, and the habits of players who already know their roles perfectly."
Ferrara's comments came as he praised Inter's current setup under Cristian Chivu, which has brought consistent results.
He pointed to the specialised roles within the team as a reason why integrating a player like Lookman would have been disruptive.
"Think about Bastoni—if you move him into a back four, he struggles a bit more," Ferrara explained. "The same goes for Dimarco, who is a pure wing-back. Changing the shape just to fit one player in would’ve created too many doubts."
