He will be there for next 10 years — Rio Ferdinand excited about 23-year-old Man Utd star
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has endorsed new signing Senne Lammens as the club's long-term solution in goal, predicting the Belgian will be a fixture in the team for the next ten years.
The move raised some eyebrows, given Lammens had only 52 Belgian Pro League appearances to his name, leading to questions about his readiness for the Premier League.
However, Lammens has enjoyed a steady start to his Old Trafford career. His assured performance in the 1-0 Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United has convinced Ferdinand that United have finally addressed their goalkeeping concerns.
Speaking on his YouTube broadcast during the match, Ferdinand praised the new keeper's no-nonsense style.
"Do you know what, Lammens is a solid addition to this squad," he said.
"He’s going to be Manchester United’s keeper for the next ten years, no doubt."
Ferdinand highlighted Lammens' reliability and command of his area as key attributes. "He is as solid as a rock. No frills, just gets it done," the former defender explained. "Look, you need him to come out to claim it on the edge of his six-yard box, he comes and just takes one through bodies, beautiful to see."
Ferdinand emphasized the importance of having a dependable presence behind the defence, something he feels United has been missing.
"We’ve been searching for a consistent goalkeeper, someone you know where they’re going to be when you look around," he stated.
