He should play another sport - Fabregas slams former Chelsea teammate to leave football
Como manager Cesc Fàbregas has criticised striker Álvaro Morata following his late dismissal in Como’s 2-1 Serie A defeat to ACF Fiorentina.
Morata was sent off in the closing stages after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. The incident began with an off-the-ball clash involving Fiorentina defender Luca Ranieri, who nudged the Como forward, sending him to the ground.
Shortly after, Morata appeared to press his head against Ranieri. The defender fell clutching his face as Fiorentina players appealed to the referee.
The official initially booked Morata before immediately producing a second yellow card.
What Fabregas said
Speaking after the match, Fabregas, who previously played alongside Morata for Spain and at Chelsea FC made his disappointment clear.
“Provocation is part of football,” Fàbregas told DAZN.
He added, “Those who can’t live with it should play another sport. I expect much more from an experienced player like him. We shouldn’t look for excuses or worry about what others are doing.”
The Como boss also took responsibility for his team’s overall display, expressing frustration at their lack of intensity and focus.
“I’m annoyed that I wasn’t able to help the boys understand the importance of the game. We made mistakes in our attitude. We have to show more desire,” he said
A fifth-place finish would secure Europa League football, while sixth would offer entry into the Conference League play-off round.
