‘He may not play for Liverpool again’ - Newcastle legend casts doubt on Salah’s future
The controversy stems from an explosive interview Salah gave following Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds, where he was benched for the third consecutive match.
The forward claimed he was "thrown under the bus" and alleged he has "no relationship" with manager Arne Slot.
Salah, who did not travel for the midweek 1-0 victory over Inter Milan, is set for crucial talks with Slot.
Shearer speaks on Salah’s situation
Shearer believes an apology from the player is unlikely, potentially signalling the end of his time on Merseyside.
"I think that depends on Mo himself in terms of whether he's prepared to back down and accept that he shouldn't have done it," Shearer told Betfair when asked if Salah would play for Liverpool again.
"He has to come out and apologise, although I'm not sure I see that happening. My belief is that he may not play for Liverpool again."
Shearer, drawing on his own experiences, sympathised with Salah's frustration but criticised the decision to air his grievances publicly.
"I've been through all the reasons why I think he did it and I understand his attitude... The big difference is that he shouldn't have gone to the world press to say that."
Shearer acknowledged it would be a "shame" for Salah's tenure to end on such a sour note. While he believes the forward's status as a club and Premier League great is secure, the recent events will leave a mark.
"It won't be forgotten all of this, but I don't think it'll ruin his legacy," Shearer explained. "He's achieved so much, and Liverpool wouldn't have won what they have without him... but it will be tarnished."
During his eight years at the club, Salah has been instrumental in Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League triumphs, scoring an incredible 250 goals to become their third all-time leading scorer.
