He left out of anger — Davido reveals the ONE thing that stopped him from meeting Cristiano Ronaldo in the flesh

In a classic Davido-style online reveal, the Afrobeats icon stunned fans with a dramatic backstory involving his good friend Cristiano Ronaldo.

While reacting to Barcelona’s nail-biting Champions League semi-final defeat to Inter Milan on Tuesday, May 6, Davido sparked reactions with a telling revelation.

According to the 5IVE crooner, he was all set for a legendary meet up with Cristiano Ronaldo, who personally invited him to Old Trafford, but after a devastating loss, a furious Ronaldo opted to go straight home instead, cancelling his proposed dinner with Davido.

“Football ehn fit give person BP … I remember when CR7 personally invite me come watch match for Old trafford then couple years ago … He don book dinner ALL! Party chillin etc …. Nah so dem go lose match .. BABA VEX GO HOUSE .. since that day I still never forgive Maguire,” Davido posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

Unsurprisingly, the internet erupted shortly after Davido’s post.

Some fans doubted the story, others fiercely defended the multi-award-winning superstar’s claim.

One sceptic fired in the comments: “CR7 invite you personally?? God god punish that your lying mouth.”

Another shot back in support: “They said he was lying. They didn’t know him and Cristaino Ronaldo dey chat on Instagram and WHATSAPP steady. Davido is just too big to post chat evidence. He has nothing to prove anybody.”

The clash continued with one user stating: “Na lie Ronaldo no invite you anything stop lying you are too old for that.”

But another fan clapped back: “Wait, una dey doubt say CR7 invite 001 abi wetin?? Na Davido oo, not some random celeb.”

This isn’t the first time Davido has flexed his Ronaldo connection.

In an emotional interview with Anas Bukhash on the Dubai-based show #AB Talks, Davido opened up about fame and pressure, drawing parallels with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

“Look at Ronaldo…when he left the World Cup, he’s my friend by the way, he’s my very good friend,” Davido revealed.

He added: “When he left the World Cup (Qatar 2022), I remember like being on the internet, and they were abusing him so much….after everything he has done. That’s my greatest fear.”

Davido remains the only Nigerian artist currently followed by Cristiano Ronaldo on Instagram.

Following the release of his 2017 global smash hit, “Fall”, the Atlanta-born singer took to social media to express his excitement after Portugal forward followed him on Instagram.

This came after a popular verse on the song stated that people call him ‘Cristiano’.

According to Rolling Stone, Fall was one of the top-100-most-Shazam-searched singles in America in January 2019, and was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York.

In February 2019, Fall became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.

It was ranked at number 163 on Pitchfork's list of the 200 Best Songs of the 2010s.

Fall has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and gold by Music Canada.
