'He knows what it means to wear the shirt' — Salomon Kalou picks next Chelsea manager

Chelsea are officially on the hunt for a new head coach after Enzo Maresca departed the club on New Year’s Day.

Despite leading the Blues to FIFA Club World Cup glory and a Conference League title in 2025, a dismal run of one win in seven Premier League games, and a 15-point gap to leaders Arsenal, prompted the hierarchy to act.

In an exclusive interview with Duelbits.com, Kalou argued that Frank Lampard’s deep connection to Stamford Bridge makes him the ideal candidate to steady the ship.

While Lampard’s first permanent stint ended in the sack and his interim spell in 2023 was even worse his recent managerial spell with Coventry, taking them comfortably to the top of the Championship, has restored his reputation.

"Frank Lampard would be a great choice. He understands the club, the expectations, and the culture. He knows what it means to wear that shirt," Kalou told Duelbits.

Lampard has enjoyed a sensational 2025 at Coventry City, transforming the Sky Blues from 17th place into Championship leaders.

His tactical evolution—building a clinical, high-intensity attack while maintaining the division’s best defensive record—has proven he has matured since his time at Chelsea.

However, Kalou also noted that Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola remains a strong alternative."But I also think Andoni Iraola is a strong candidate. His teams play with intensity, organisation, and clear identity."
