He has made his mark - Werder Bremen coach hails Boniface after impressive debut
Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen has praised Nigerian striker Victor Boniface following his standout debut performance in their 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend.
Boniface, who joined Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan during transfer deadline day, wasted no time making an impact, registering an assist as the Greens claimed their first Bundesliga win of the season.
What Steffen said
Speaking after the win, Steffen lauded the 23-year-old forward for his immediate influence on the squad.
“He (Boniface) can continue, and we can continue to be happy. We’re happy that he’s here and has already made his mark,” Steffen told Weltski.
The coach, however, urged focus ahead of their next clash against SC Freiburg.
He said, “I’m happy to take this atmosphere with me and show it. But we have to do a lot against Freiburg to ensure this positive atmosphere continues.”
Boniface’s switch to Bremen comes after limited opportunities at Bayer Leverkusen, where competition for attacking spots saw him spend more time on the bench.
The move to the Weserstadion offers him the chance to secure regular minutes and rediscover the prolific form that made him a key player in the Bundesliga.
With his strong debut, Bremen fans will be hopeful that Boniface continues to deliver as the club looks to build momentum in the league.
