Harambee Starlets have landed in a tricky group for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) following the draw conducted in Morocco on Thursday.
Starlets, who will be making a return to the continental tournament for the second time, 10 years since their debut in 2016, will have to contend with hosts Morocco, Senegal and Algeria in Group A.
Kenya have a tricky task getting out of the group as besides being hosts, Morocco have reached the last two finals, and will be looking to do it this year and possibly win the tournament.
Meanwhile, both Algeria and Senegal reached the quarter-final of WAFCON 2024, making Kenya the underdog in Group A.
Odemba Relishing WAFCON Challenge
However, Starlets coach Beldine Odemba expressed her confidence of putting up a strong show in Morocco.
“We are growing and looking forward to becoming a strong footballing nation in women’s football. If we do not play and experience the best, we can never be the best. We are happy and excited for the tournament,” Odemba said when her side qualified after beating The Gambia in the final qualification round.
Kenya will play the opening match of the tournament against Morocco on March 17 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium before taking on Senegal three days later and complete group stage action with a clash against Algeria on March 23.
