Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he is happy title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea dropped points; however, he insisted that the buck rests at the foot of his own team and that they must remain consistent.
Manchester City had a vintage performance at the Etihad against newly promoted Sunderland, beating the Black Cats 3-0.
The win took them to second on the table, only two points behind league leaders Arsenal. The Gunners were beaten by Aston Villa (now 3rd), and Chelsea, who were second before last week, were held to a draw by Bournemouth and consequently dropped to third.
What Guardiola said
Speaking after the game, Pep was asked about Arsenal and Chelsea's result. He admitted that it was a good day but reinforced the need to do the job on their own end.
"I cannot deny it, but from my experience, when you win the Premier League, it's how you perform and how you grow," he said, per the BBC.
“You have to be consistent, game by game, day by day, being good. That's what we're looking for; in general, we've been good, but not for 90 minutes.
“Today was the first time we had 90 minutes really good. We talked a lot about that, and today the team was at a top level during 90 minutes.”
