Gor Mahia Captain Rallies Charges for Final Push as Title Hopes Hang in the Balance

Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno has issued a rallying cry to his charges after their title aspirations took a blow over the weekend.

The Gor Mahia skipper and his teammates were frustrated to a barren draw by Murang’a Seal on Sunday as their title ambitions was dealt another setback.

The fixture marked the second time in the previous week that the FKF Premier League champions dropped points in a fiercely contested title race with Kenya Police and Tusker.

In midweek, Gor Mahia suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Nairobi City Stars, which saw them fall further behind leaders Police.

Despite their recent setbacks, the 21-time champions are still in contention, with their long-serving skipper issuing a rallying cry for the remainder of their matches.

"It was a tough game. I think we were not lucky today, but sometimes it happens in football," said Otieno after their clash against Murang’a Seal via Citizen TV.

With three matches to go for K’Ogalo, the skipper urged his fellow teammates to give a good account of themselves.

"Anything can happen, so we have to continue working hard and making sure that we win the remaining matches," he added.

Otieno, who is on a swan song with the defending champions, is eyeing a third successive title.

Despite their setback, Gor Mahia—who sit third with 54 points—still have a chance to take the race down to the wire.

The Sinisa Mihic-coached side have a game in hand on both Tusker and Kenya Police, stemming from the postponed Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards.

Winning their game in hand and the subsequent fixture against Ulinzi Stars will set up a final matchday showdown against Police for a potential title decider.
