Goodbye Barcelona: Ansu Fati joins AS Monaco on loan

AS Monaco officially announced the loan acquisition of Spanish forward Ansu Fati from FC Barcelona for the 2025-2026 season.

The 22-year-old winger, who has faced a challenging period at his boyhood club has a buy clause of 11 million euros.

Ansu Fati burst onto the scene as a teenage prodigy at Barcelona, debuting at just 16 years old in 2019 and earning comparisons to club legend Lionel Messi.

His early promise saw him become Spain's youngest-ever goalscorer in a competitive international match at 17.

In the 2024-25 season under coach Hansi Flick, Fati managed only 17 appearances.

This loan move to Monaco offers Fati a chance to rediscover his form in Ligue 1.

His contract with Barcelona runs until 2027, with an option to extend to 2029 for the Catalan club.

Fati will team up with Paul Pogba at Monaco, the French World Cup winner who has just returned from an 18-month ban for a doping offense.

Fati will transition from wearing the iconic number 10 jersey at Barcelona to the number 31 at Monaco.

He is expected to blend into Monaco’s attacking style under coach Adi Hütter as they aim to compete in Europe.
