Gareth insulted his players — Ex-Barcelona star slams England boss over recent comments
Gary Lineker has said Gareth Southgate’s comments regarding Kalvin Phillips were “insulting” to the England squad.
The Three Lions stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Denmark in their second group game, and Southgate was heavily criticized for their abysmal performance, especially in possession.
After the game against Denmark, Southgate suggested that his team were struggling due to the absence of Kalvin Phillips.
Lineker unhappy with Gareth Southgate's comments
Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, has said he didn’t like the comments.“I didn’t like Gareth’s comments after the game in terms of Kalvin Phillips.
"It was insulting to some of the players already there and also it’s wrong because there are players in that squad who can do it.
“Even the young players who he’s brought in can do it. Adam Wharton can do it. Kobbie Mainoo could probably do it, but the players need instructions, they need to understand what their job is.”
England face Slovenia in their final group game on Tuesday.
