Galatasaray vs Trabzonspor preview, prediction, team news and head-to-head

Nigerian strikers Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu will alsp do battle to gain supremacy, with both in fine form heading into this clash.

Okan Buruk’s team have started this campaign in unstoppable form. They remain unbeaten in the league (9W, 1D), sitting comfortably at the top with 28 points, five clear of their nearest rivals, Trabzonspor. 

Since their 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, Galatasaray have gone seven games unbeaten across all competitions (6W, 1D), the most recent being a 3-1 league win over Goztepe.

However, Trabzonspor were the last team to win the league prior to Galatasray’s current three-peat, and Fatih Tekke’s men are once again mounting a challenge.

The Black Sea Storm have lost just once in 10 league matches this season, with manager Tekke losing only lost three of his 21 league games (12W, 6D, 3L) since he took over the job last season. 

However, all those defeats came against Galatasaray or Fenerbahce, something he will be desperate to change this weekend.

Trabzonspor are on a four-game winning run, with a 2-0 victory over Eyupspor being the most recent result.

Galatasaray have had the upper hand in this rivalry recently, winning the last six meetings between the sides in all competitions and not losing in seven, including a 3-0 victory in last season’s Turkish Cup final.

Buruk has never lost to Trabzonspor since taking over the Galatasaray job, recording six wins and a draw in seven encounters.

Galatasaray will be without Davinson Sanchez, whois suspended for this game after picking up too many yellow cards.

Lucas Torreira remains a doubt due to family reasons, while Ilkay Gundogan is still struggling with a calf problem. 

Up front, Osimhen should start again after scoring in the 3-1 win over Goztepe, but Mauro Icardi, who came off the bench to score in the game as well, is also pushing for a start.

For Trabzonspor, Anthony Nwakaeme is still out with a muscle injury, and Taha Emre Ince faces a long spell on the sidelines after surgery. Midfielder Salih Malkocoglu also misses out.

Turkish Super Lig scorer Paul Onuachu, who already has seven goals this season, will lead the line and look to win his personal battle with compatriot Osimhen.
