"I never imagined I would have to share something so personal with the public, but given the situation, I feel it's necessary. After 16 years together and 4 wonderful children, Jermaine and I have decided to part ways. We will remain friends and continue to co-parent. We kindly ask that you respect our children's privacy during this challenging time. Thank you, Ellie."

The couple, who tied the knot in 2011, share daughters Geneva and Olivia, as well as son Jacob.

The cracks in their marriage began to show publicly after Jenas, 42, was sacked from his high-profile roles as a Match of the Day pundit and One Show host.

The dismissal followed complaints about 'inappropriate texts' he had sent to female colleagues after the messages were reportedly shown to him during an online grilling by BBC bosses.

Speaking to The Sun at the time, Jenas apologised but denied any criminal wrongdoing.

"I am ashamed, and I am deeply sorry," he said.

"There was no excuse for my actions, and I apologise to my wife and my family."

Sources close to the couple revealed that Jenas' father, Dennis, had previously admitted Ellie kicked Jermaine out of the main bedroom at their £1 million Hertfordshire home amid the scandal.

The ex-England midfielder confessed to lying to Ellie during a family holiday, sneaking off to take a Zoom call with BBC bosses regarding the complaints.

With the couple now officially calling it quits, Jenas looks to focus on his career after returning to broadcasting last October.

Jenas was reportedly at the Emirates stadium covering Arsenal v Liverpool for an overseas network but it wasn't shown on British airwaves.
