Former Super Falcons coach shares first impression of national team
Former Super Falcons boss Randy Waldrum shared details of his first impression as coach of the Nigerian women's national team, narrating how impressed he was with the set-up.
The 69-year-old is currently the technical director of the Pittsburgh Panthers. He served as the head coach of the Super Falcons from 2020 to 2023. Additionally, he led the team to Nigeria to the knockout stage of the last Women's World Cup before leaving the role.
What Waldrum said
Waldrum has previously highlighted some of the negatives around the national team, including corruption allegations and unpaid bonuses. However, in his recent interview, he narrated his positive first impression.
“There were other players and young talent, like I said earlier, so it was a good first impression,” he said, per Brila. My first impression was when I first got there, we played an event in Turkey; I met the team, Dr Sanusi and the administration there in Turkey.
“I knew we weren’t going to have all the resources that the USA has, but that first event went really well, we won all three games there in Turkey. Working there, getting to know Doctor Sanusi and the staff, all of that went really well.
“The thing that impressed me the most is that even tho we didn’t have our full squad that we took to the World Cup we had a handful of those players and I was really impressed with the level of the talent and it was kinda what I had expected.”
