Former Orlando Pirates Captain Credits Pitso Mosimane for Life-Changing Boost in His Career
Siwelele FC head coach Lehlohonolo Seema has revealed the pivotal role played by celebrated manager Pitso Mosimane in launching his coaching journey.
In a recent interview with the Bloemfontein club's media team, the former Orlando Pirates captain expressed his deep gratitude to the three-time CAF Champions League winner for his early support.
"I will forever be grateful to him," Seema stated during the "Coach’s Corner" series. "Everyone associated me with football, and while I was still figuring out my next step, Pitso Mosimane stepped in."
Lehlohonolo Seema explained how Mosimane, who was managing the South African national team (Bafana Bafana) at the time, offered a crucial opportunity.
"He said he would pay for all the players who were about to retire or had already retired and wanted to go into coaching," Seema recalled. "He paid for all of us to do our first coaching badge. We went, and I got my first certificate."
Pitso Mosimane’s Hand in Building Seema From Player to Premier Soccer League Manager
This initial step, funded by Pitso Mosimane, set the foundation for Seema's career on the sidelines. The former Lesotho international has since become a respected figure in the Premier Soccer League, starting his top-flight coaching career with the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic FC.
The former defender has also held coaching positions at Lamontville Golden Arrows, Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United.
Pitso Mosimane, affectionately known as "Jingles," began his own managerial path at SuperSport United before serving as an assistant to Carlos Alberto Parreira for Bafana Bafana. He later took the head coach role for the national team before his historic tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns.
At Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso Mosimane transformed the Pretoria-based club into a dominant force, culminating in their first and only CAF Champions League title in 2016.
He later moved to Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he secured two more Champions League trophies between 2020 and 2022.
After spells in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iran, the 61-year-old is currently without a club. However, speculation is growing about a potential return to Sundowns, with the future of current coach Miguel Cardoso reportedly uncertain.
